Elijah J. Thomas, a Philadelphia-born and Harlem-based flutist, saxophonist, educator and composer/arranger, began his musical journey at an early age under the direction of educator and music director Mr. John Zisk. Elijah holds a B.M. in Jazz Arranging & Composition and an M.M. in Music Education from the Esther Boyer College of Music and Dance. He has studied woodwind performance and improvisation with Dick Oatts, Tim Warfield, Jr. and Walter Bell, and composition/orchestration with Kevin Rodgers, Dr. Cynthia Folio, Dr. Maurice Wright and Dr. Norman David. Elijah has taught with Temple Music Prep, Settlement Music School, Tune Up Philly, and Education Through Music, Inc. Currently, Elijah is the Middle School Band & Choir Director at BASIS Independent Manhattan School. He has two full-length recorded projects, Diversity and The Unity of Sound, released with his former group The NeW Quintet (available on Amazon Music and CDBaby), and a new album release Our Search with his ensemble Social Music Collective, available for free listen on Bandcamp.
