Marcus Grant is a professional drummer, percussionist, educator, and band leader originally from West Chester, Pennsylvania currently living in Miami, Florida. After receiving his Bachelor of Music degree from the Temple University Boyer College of Music and Dance, he went on to receive a Master of Music degree at the University of Miami Frost School of Music. After moving to Miami in 2015, he quickly became a frequently-called accompanist and band leader in South Florida playing with notable artists such as Nicole Henry, Jon Secada, Néstor Torres, Arturo Sandoval, Victor Goines, Ira Sullivan, Shelly Berg, and Dena DeRose.
As an educator he has worked as a clinician for the Florida Bandmasters Association All-State Middle School jazz band and the Greater Miami Youth Symphony Jazz Intensive Camp. He also works regularly in the Miami area with middle and high school music programs teaching drum set and percussion while also maintaining a studio of private students. His passion for education is the result of the instruction received during his studies with Daniel Monaghan, Byron Landham, Steve Fidyk, Phillip O'Banion, Steve Rucker, John Yarling, and Dafnis Prieto along with countless other mentors.
Marcus is currently pursuing his second masters degree at the University of Miami studying ethnomusicology under the direction of scholars David Ake and Melvin Butler. He research focuses on African American protest music and hip-hop.
